The Advantages of the Genetically Modified Food and its Defects

CRISPR-Cas9 is the newest genomic editing tool. Plant pathologist, Dr. Yinong Yang and his team at Pennsylvania State University developed an anti-browning white button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) using the CRISPR-Cas9 technology. They snip a bit of DNA from mushroon, but add no new genes. The mushroom will not be regulated as a genetically modified organism (GMO) in the US as it contains no foreign DNA, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has said. In Taiwan, under the regulation of Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation all foods containing GM ingredients should be labeled.
