On the Patient's Best Interest in Terms of Good Death
Regarding the issue of good death with dignity, although modern medical care has been far developed, and the current legal system in our country has also implemented two related laws — The Hospice Palliative Care Act and Patient Right to Autonomy Act — but domestic and foreign cases have highlighted two serious legal system problems: 1. The current legal system is still incomplete in terms of protecting the patient’s dignity and rights of good death; 2. The meaning of patient’s best interests as well as its application on this issue is still unclear in Taiwan! Therefore, this article is to explore the best interests of patients, and suggest that our country should further promote legislation that can actively help patients die with dignity.
