Since the 1980s, every nation in the world has been struggling to make its government stronger by implementing various administrative reforms. This book makes a significant and timely contribution by analyzing what has been achieved and what still remains to be done to improve public sector performance, transform government into governance, and reposition the administrative state, three of the most important challenges still facing public administrators the world over. The book begins with two chapters that provide the global setting for the country-specific chapters that follow. These chapters then explore how the concepts of New Public Management have been translated and implemented in different social and political contexts, such as Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. |
