New Law Makes It Legal for Atheist Doctors and Nurses to Refuse Care to Religious Patients

A new law in Mississippi has made it legal for doctors and nurses to refuse care to certain patients on religious grounds. It would serve to reason this would also pertain to atheist doctors and nurses who could refuse to treat patients who are religious. In other words, it can be inferred that this also applies to atheists’ doctors and nurses who can refuse to treat religious patients. In the United States, medical workers have the right to refuse medical care for patients based on their beliefs. However, whenever this happens, it often leads to friction with the patient and triggers intense debate about the balance between religious freedom and patient rights. Patients often resort to the law remedies and accuse medical personnel of unlawful behaviour. When medical personnel are punished or dismissed on these grounds, they will themselves argue that they have been the victims of religious discrimination. The United States and at least 12 states are considering whether to force medical personnel to provide medical assistance to patients or, conversely, prevent them from being punished or fired for religious beliefs.
