The Use of Digital Technology to Prevent Epidemics
The Ebola outbreak has killed more than 10000 people in West Africa. The most challenging tasks in combating the Ebola are the inconsistency of the interpretation Ebola symptoms and lack of sufficient information to control its spread. In the era that bombarded by digital information, many institutions have taken technological approach such as setting up massive data shared-platform or telecommunication stations to help not only monitor but also predict disease outbreaks. There are no reported Ebola cases in Taiwan. A shared information reporting system, however, is the key element to safely prevent the spread of infectious disease at an early stage, such as the Cloud Project designed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for improving efficiency of disease surveillance and significantly reducing a possible disease outbreak.
