Current Regulation Overview of the Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research
The use of human embryonic stem cell offers new hope for many diseases that are considered incurable under traditional therapies. However, it raises many legal and ethical controversies as to whether an embryo can have a legal status as a human being and how broad the research could take. In comparison to the fact that many countries have enacted laws and regulations to govern the scientific research and studies of human embryo, research on human embryonic stem cells is not yet regulated by Taiwan law but only managed by administrative guidelines. Due to the rapid growth of biotechnology, there is an urgent demand for stem cell regulations.
