Heartbeat Act? Criteria for Abortion in Taiwan
Four States in the USA have made the Heartbeat Bill legal, and some people in Taiwan also applied for referendum. However, the case failed at the first stage, due to insufficient data. The failed case aimed at reducing the legal period for abortion from 24 weeks to 8 weeks, the reason is that the heartbeats could be detected on the fetus of 8 weeks. It proves the sign of life, so the right of fetus should be protected. This article would discuss the issue from two aspects, one is the controversy around the Heartbeat Bill in the USA; the other is the discussion of the criteria of abortion and related issues in Taiwan.
