Criminal justice has long had restrictions on medication assisted treatment (MAT), restrictions that are considered discrimination against people with substance use disorders. This article takes two anti-discrimination lawsuits under the Americans with Disabilities Act (Pennsylvania Drug Court case and Maine Department of Corrections case) as examples to clarify the reasons for the creation of restrictions and analyze the rationale and significance of the lawsuits. This is used to further explore how the Americans with Disabilities Act promotes legal and cultural changes.
