Patient Right to Autonomy Act is since January 6th 2019 in valid in Taiwan. Even though the legal subject has been extended vis-à-vis Hospice Palliative Care Act, it still has strict element of procedure. If there has no advanced directive, the medical treatment maintaining life could not be removed. It might be a space for judgement of evaluation by legislation. But it depends on the legal practice whether the autonomy of patients could be practiced and whether the aim to protect their right to die well could be fulfilled.
