Brief Introduction to Physician Assistant in U.S.
醫師助理稱為“Physician Assistant”或“Physician Associate”，是美國自1960年代以來，為因應國內偏遠地區醫療人手不足，發展出輔助醫師的助理體制。有鑑於人口高齡化、少子化以及聯邦預算限制，美國醫療環境正面臨大幅度的轉變 ，人們呼籲以醫師助理和專科護理師來填補醫師的空缺。美國醫師助理制度已行之有年，我們能否藉由認識其職務內容與教育訓練、回顧其歷史脈絡及政策發展，並參考病人滿意度，進一步觀察其他國家施行該制度的情況，試著探討臺灣引進此制度的可能性。
Physician Assistant / Physician Associate is the assisting role for physician developed in 1960 in the U.S., due to the lack of medical care in rural area. Given that the aging population and the restriction on the federal budget, the healthcare system is facing a massive transformation, and thus, people call for the physician assistants and nurse practitioners to fill the gap of physicians. The development of physician assistant in the U.S. has been years, by introducing the role, the job description and the education of physician assistant, reviewing the patient satisfaction and the current adoption to the system of other countries, we could evaluate the possibility for Taiwan to adopt the physician assistant.
